Italy's change of sides in 1943
Italy, as a fascist state under Mussolini, was a major ally of the National Socialist German Reich. On July 25, 1943, the King of Italy dismissed Mussolini. On September 8, 1943, Badoglio, the new prime minister, concluded an armistice with the Allies officially opposed to the Axis powers.
